Scotsman water filter guide
A properly sized Scotsman water filter helps manage sediment, unwanted tastes and odors, and scale formation before water reaches the ice machine. This collection includes AquaPatrol Plus and SSM Plus systems, coarse prefilters, replacement cartridges, and AquaBullet sanitation wands. Each product performs a different job, so match the equipment to the ice machine, production rate, required flow, installed filter head, and incoming water conditions.

AquaPatrol Plus systems reduce dirt and rust particles while supplying phosphate to inhibit mineral buildup. Maximum flow ranges from 2.1 gallons per minute for the single-cartridge

SSM Plus combines half-micron filtration with food-grade polyphosphate to reduce particles, chlorine, unwanted tastes, and odors while helping inhibit scale formation. Options include the
SSM1-P
at up to 1.67 gallons per minute, the
SSM2-P
at up to 3.34 gallons per minute, and the
SSM3-P
at up to 5.01 gallons per minute.
- The SC10-A and SC20-A are coarse prefilters rated for maximum flows of 5 and 10 gallons per minute, respectively. They’re intended to capture larger sediment before water reaches the primary filtration system.
- Replacement cartridges are available for AquaPatrol Plus, SSM Plus, and SC-series systems. The cartridge part number and required quantity must match the installed filter head.
- The AquaBullet is a drop-in antimicrobial wand for compatible modular cube ice machines. It helps inhibit mold, bacteria, and algae that cause slime in the sump, but it isn’t a water filter or a substitute for prescribed cleaning and sanitizing.

Sizing checks
- Confirm the complete ice-machine model, ice type, published production, and required service flow before ordering a filtration system.
- Match the filtration family to the water concern. AquaPatrol Plus, SSM Plus, SC-series prefilters, and AquaBullet devices aren’t interchangeable.
- Determine if the installation needs a complete manifold assembly, one replacement cartridge, or a multipack. Confirm the exact part number and cartridge count used by the existing head.
- Scotsman lists an operating water-pressure range of 20 to 80 PSIG and a water-temperature range of 40°F to 100°F for these filtration systems.
- Verify the inlet and outlet connection sizes, installed dimensions, wall strength, and service clearance. Leave enough space beneath each head to remove the cartridge.
- Test the source water if hardness or scale remains a concern. Polyphosphate can inhibit deposit formation, but it doesn’t soften water by removing dissolved calcium and magnesium.
- Plan to replace cartridges at least every six months, at their rated capacity, or sooner when water conditions, declining flow, pressure loss, taste, or odor indicate the need.
- Connect the filtration system to the potable ice-making water supply. Don’t filter a water-cooled condenser circuit unless the filter and ice-machine documentation specifically approve that application.
