The KM-901MRJZ is an ice-making head, not a complete standalone system. It requires a Hoshizaki URC-14FZ remote condenser, a compatible refrigerant line set, and an approved bin or dispenser. Hoshizaki rates the KM-901MRJZ at 900 lb per day under 70°F air and 50°F water conditions, but output falls to 780 lb at 90°F air and 70°F water. Use the 780 lb figure for a hot or demanding location, and include a practical reserve. Confirm both installation sites.
The KM-901MRJZ remote system needs an indoor location for the ice maker and an outdoor location for the condenser. Confirm these limits before purchase:
- Keep 24 inches of clearance at the front and rear of the URC-14FZ.
- Standard line sizing and refrigerant charge support up to 66 feet. Different line sizes and additional refrigerant may extend the limit to 100 feet under Hoshizaki’s instructions.
- The condenser may be no more than 33 feet above or 10 feet below the ice maker.
- Have qualified refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing professionals complete the installation.
The condenser receives power and grounding from the ice maker and must not connect to a separate external power source. Refrigerant piping must be correctly sized, routed, insulated, brazed, leak-tested, and charged. Follow the current Hoshizaki manual and applicable codes.
Budget for utilities.
At 90°F air and 70°F water, the KM-901MRJZ is rated at 4.75 kWh and 16 gallons of potable water per 100 lb of ice. At the full 780 lb rating, that equals approximately 37 kWh and 125 gallons over 24 hours. Actual use changes with demand, cycling, water temperature, site conditions, and maintenance.
Match storage to demand.
A larger bin can hold more ice for rush periods, but it won’t correct inadequate production. Confirm bin or dispenser compatibility, any required top kit, and the correct bin-control setting. The KM-901MRJZ automatically stops production when ice reaches the configured level and restarts as ice is removed. Compare compatible commercial ice bins after demand is established.
Keep maintenance on a written schedule.
Hoshizaki requires the KM-901MRJZ and its bin or dispenser to be cleaned and sanitized at least once a year. Water and site conditions may require more frequent service.
